This thread is going to contain a list of all of the movies that I’ve watched in 2023.
First movie of 2023 was Black Adam. Nothing was bad, but this could have easily been edited down into a 1.5 hour long movie or expanded to 2 movies of that length. At two hours it felt bloated with a “true ending” that felt tacked on. We will see if it is at all relevant in the upcoming DCEU reorg.
Second movie of 2023 was John Wick 3: Parabellum. This movie was WILD in the absolute best way. It felt like more of a theme park ride than a movie at times which wasn’t entirely a bad thing. Overall, I think I preferred the previous installments but I am also definitely watching everything that comes next.
Hilda and the Mountain King was the 3rd movie of 2023. This was a heart-warming fairytale full of understanding and whimsy like every Hilda story that I have engaged with has been. I love this world and the way it frames conflicts and how it treats all sides as valid being who are capable of growth. Good film!
The 4th movie is Edge of Tomorrow. I really liked this one. It’s exactly the sort of sci-fi action movie with a clever premise that I can watch any time. The cast kills it in this movie capturing both the viscousness and befuddlements of soldiers. The ending even manages to be happier than I expected it would be. Great film!
The 5th movie of the year is Bullet Train! This movie was dumb fun and felt like a cross between a Coen Brothers’ movie and John Wick. I enjoyed it even if I was quite cognizant of how dumb it was the whole time. I am definitely not a Diesel…
@BeardedRogue ah, I saw it late last year and there was something that it reminded me of that I can't put my finger on. I want to say it had a feel of Lupin3 but yeah, it was dumb fun.
@gpage that’s a good shout! It definitely has a Lupin3 quality to it.
@BeardedRogue Solid movie, and based on a very enjoyable manga.
@cardboard_kid I am definitely interested in the manga after having seen the movie, especially if the main character isn’t Tom Cruise. 😜

@BeardedRogue @cardboard_kid I mean, the first 30ish minutes were a delight...

Coincidentally, I also don't like Cruise in most movies fwiw (Edge of Tomorrow and Tropic Thunder being two exceptions).
