Today, you will probably see ads for Bud Light, Doritos, and Jesus. The latter will be funded by a shadowy group of theocratic billionaires like the guy who founded Hobby Lobby and sued to prevent his workers from accessing basic healthcare

Who's Behind Those Jesus Ads You're Gonna See During the Big Game

YouTube
@rebeccawatson I won't, I watch Rugby. Six Nations is going. American Crapball has nothing on Rugby. ;-)
@rebeccawatson I read this in the voice of the teacher from Dazed & Confused
@rebeccawatson ...Who also is a notorious Middle Eastern Antiquity smuggler.

@rebeccawatson

How effective are those ads going to be? Is there a target demographic who is stuffing their face full of doritos and washing it down with bud light. All of a sudden a Jesus commercial comes on and they're like "I really should quit drinking and watching so much football, and start going to church."

What do they hope to accomplish by putting Jesus in more commercials?

@DXMacGuffin I thought @rebeccawatson did a good job of covering it quickly. That lonely people during a pandemic might feel comfortable with ads that stress the "niceness" of Jesus, and end up texting with a church that's pretty nasty.
@rebeccawatson opiate of the masses. Religion and the aristocracy work carefully together to keep you in your place and to be thankful for that place.

@rebeccawatson Rocking that https://wfmu.org/ t-shirt.

If you haven't already, give them a listen.

@rebeccawatson I just assumed if you went to the website you'd get $15 of free Bitcoin.
@rebeccawatson okay, I’m okay with Canadian TV not rebroadcasting *these*.
@rebeccawatson I absolutely love that you have the super pertinent “buddy Jesus” from Dogma! First time I read about who was behind the “He gets us” campaign, I immediately thought about “buddy Jesus”. Spend that money on the poor if you really want to be Christian. To quote Ganda, ‘If it weren’t for Christians, I’d be a Christian
@rebeccawatson The ads miss the point of it all. Jesus does need to “get” us, we are to “get” Jesus and his message. They know that message is not what they are peddling.

@rebeccawatson I've already seen the fucking web ads all over the place.

Even without the actual background of the commercials, everything about having an AD CAMPAIGN for a RELIGION is repulsive.

@rebeccawatson a response I got to this same post on my Flipboard was, “They aren’t real Christians.” How is one to make sense of that statement, is it intended to be a sweeping defense for Christianity in general? Until these offenses by Christians are called out and condemned swiftly by an overwhelming majority of fellow Christians I call BS on that defense. The bible is filled with misogyny and hate. And yes, I’ve personally read it more than once.
@rebeccawatson Buttwiper, Dullritos and Jeebus. All reichts wing corporations. BTW Jeebus doesn’t ‘get’ anything. If it ever existed, its now been dead for 2000 years.
@rebeccawatson those thank you - I’ve seen those too before Super Bowl and freaked me out
