New laser cut back plates for the Hayes Chronograph have arrived. Came out pretty nice. Used 0.8 black glossy plastic sheets. A little more flex than the original but still pretty good. Paper prototype on the bottom right. #RetroComputing #VintageComputing #HayesChronograph
These new back plates go with the new 3D printed back caps that I also had made. This completes the missing back assembly of the Hayes Chronograph. #RetroComputing #VintageComputing #HayesChronograph
I’ve also been working on cleaning up the covers of the manual for the Hayes Chronograph for printing. #RetroComputing #VintageComputing #HayesChronograph
Oops I forgot the picture. But yeah, it’s a manual with a nice clean cover. It’s the little things 😄 #RetroComputing #VintageComputing #HayesChronograph
A full Hayes Stack that really “measures up” 😆 Yeah ok, it’s a ruler. But it’s a ✨ Hayes ✨ ruler. #RetroComputing #VintageComputing #HayesChronograph

I have a few Hayes Chronographs that I’d like to move. I’ve repaired these where needed: replaced bad caps and fuses, created new back plates, bought new power supplies, replaced bad VFDs, replaced missing screws, replaced missing feet, and printed new manuals. I also included my WiFi Time card that turns it into a stand alone NTP time piece (reversible by removing the card inside).

A VFD is really a beautiful thing, even when not lit. Close up of a Hayes Chronograph #VFD showing a few display elements and the fine filaments that run across it. #RetroComputing #VintageComputing #HayesChronograph
📣 New firmware available for the Hayes Chronograph WiFi Time module. Fixes DST switchover and other bugs. Load web interface and click update. 🕰️ #RetroComputing #VintageComputing #HayesChronograph
@paulrickards That device is an interesting one (that came at an interesting price).
@blakespot It’s a unusual device for sure, quite niche at the time. And it’s from Hayes, so yeah, their stuff wasn’t cheap.
@paulrickards Aww, I'm so jealous! Mine was in a box that was lost in my last move and every time one pops up on eBay it gets bid up to $500.
@timjclevenger What a bummer! Any chance of locating it or is it lost forever? They are quite an unusual find!
@paulrickards Lost forever I'm afraid, along witb my Starflight software package and the working hard drive for my SE30.
@paulrickards What a gorgeous device! Is the module for setting the time then as opposed to actually connecting it to a computer?
@mroach The VFD is quite fetching! Yes, I made a module based on the ESP8266 that fetches the time from NTP over WiFi. It makes it a stand-alone time piece ☺️ I wrote about it in my blog if you’re interested: https://biosrhythm.com/?p=1546

@paulrickards that is incredibly cool. I love it! I doubt I’ll ever be able to find a Hayes Chronograph, but now I’m thinking about sourcing some beautiful VFD and making a project out of it.

Thanks for sharing this. This is fantastic.
