I wanted an authentic #Gentoo experience, so I went with OpenRC.
Several things I would like to install use systemd only.
Ngl, I'm feeling more and more like I should've experimented with this before I had kids and other responsibilities...
So now I'm faced with a dilemma: do I try to convert to systemd? Or do I want to switch to a different distro? I'm fairly sure at least one app I require absolutely will not work on OpenRC, so I don't think I can try to stick it out and write my own ebuilds.
Trying to gauge how stubborn I want to be right now. I can definitely say my wife is not a fan of my decisions so far 😆
I think I'll convert to systemd. It looks like it might be less painful to convert than it would be to start all over.
Fingers crossed.
@juddium How did the convert to systemd go?
@nightdweller I forgot to recompile my Nvidia drivers and was getting frustrated like an idiot when X wouldn't start until I looked at the logs and realized my mistake. Otherwise pretty painless all things considered, had to redo my wifi settings but I didn't have to boot off my USB stick to get internet working which was what I was worried might happen. Switching USE flags around is such a killer feature.
@juddium what app isn't working under OpenRC? I haven't encountered any issues using it over systemd, both for desktop and server systems

@gabrielesvelto Id' rather not get into details because it involves personal stuff, but I need an app that is only available on snapd.
That, and I found an overlay with an (old) ebuild for DisplayLink drivers that defaults to systemd, and without it will use pm-utils which is no longer available.

I don't mind OpenRC, but I do have more experience with systemd.
