like all software, vst plugins have too much empty space in their interfaces nowadays. you used to be able to have like 8 entire synthesisers open on your screen at once with hundreds of little densely-packed knobs, but these days theyre indistinguishable from a kontakt library UI and have some kinda giant pre-rendered 'aesthetic' illustration that takes up 80% of the window and just 4 sliders underneath which are always called like: 'tone', 'vintage tone', 'distortion' and 'filter cutoff'
i guess its because of web design. you know how all companies have a website which is like. big Hero Image at the top, half a sentence of ad copy, followed by 4 side-by-side boxes, each with an icon, explaining the Key Value Propositions of the product. thats what software instrument plugins look like now too. theyre designed to look good in screenshots or youtube thumbnails, not act like a control panel for a synthesiser
