Been thinking about the political storm over #SocialSecurity and #Medicare. A good example of where #journalists could step out of the political spin frame to answer the questions worrying Americans.

Imagine #journalism that set out the financial realities, what options are on the table (and what other ideas might work) and pushed persistently for answers from administration and Congress — ie accountability. So far, most of the reporting seems to about partisan blaming.

One thing I’ve noticed about the Twitter journalism echo chamber is they seem to prefer reporting what we’ve lost after it happens, instead of informing us of the stakes and holding politicians accountable before they destroy the economy, or impoverish millions, or strip rights from entire populations.
@JJPeterson There’s lots of good enterprise journalism on big issues, but it often lacks follow through. It’s a paradigm that needs changing. What does accountability mean — to me, it’s not just identifying problems, it’s continuing to push for what’s being done
