This is how much the tectonic plates shifted during the Turkey earthquake, the entire road moved. This photo was taken by Prof. Hasan Sozbilir leader of the ATAG research group currently mapping the surface ruptures. #TurkeySyriaEarthquake #TectonicPlates
@AriaaJaeger I doubt the farmer already plowed over the crack… where is the road rubble? Why did grass already cover the ‘crack’ on the road side? Why is there no loose or upturned earth in the road gap? so no.
@arnandegans @AriaaJaeger I have no reason to believe that a farmer would not be able to plough the field anytime they wish. I see that the grass is 'split' at the side of the road, which is what I'd expect to see. I think that it's quite likely that a few days in people using the road would wish to remove any debris that might damage their cars from the road, it's what I'd do. I don't understand the need to be skeptical about this image. Clearly there was a huge earthquake, right?
@nathan @AriaaJaeger drive in the Philippines and mexico for a few weeks and you'll see a hundred of such 'broken' bits everywhere you go because roads are just bad everywhere... So yes I'm sceptical.
@arnandegans @AriaaJaeger Okay, but that does not preclude this from being authentic. Does the fact that you've seen this elsewhere mean that there's not tectonic activity in those parts of the world? In fact both of the places that you mention have quite active plate tectonics. Your certainty is what I'm questioning.
@nathan @AriaaJaeger that's not what I'm saying at all, ofcourse tectonic movement and such exists... But whatever man, clearly being a bit critical in today's world is not accepted anymore unless to blabber along with the herd... I'm not like that, I don't blindly believe any low res image or news item with no source or anything useful other than the posters word as real. But you do you.
