Hundreds of students stage walkout at Hillcrest High School

There was a student protest Wednesday at Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa County. Some 200 students, mostly African-Americans, walked out of class because they say they felt teachers aren’t teaching key parts of Black History Month.

@YourNeighbor57 man the school administration must be extremely fragile. Who knew you could scare a bunch of conservatives with history? All this time I have been using math and science. It is time to up my game. #gophateseducation
@YourNeighbor57 I’m so mad that students have to protest to have the truth represented in their curriculum and am so glad they are willing to do so.

@YourNeighbor57

What lazy reporting! Who told the students this? Is it written down somewhere? Is it local to that school, that district, that state?

This kind of thing needs to be reported, far and wide. But the report we need would tell us what authority, if any, was behind it. That's how we know whom to address.

@stevensrmiller I googled it. There is only one other news report that has even less info than this one.

@YourNeighbor57

Pathetic. NAACP should be on this. The member the story quotes should have been in a position to provide that extra info. The one good thing about lazy reporters is that you can use them to get your own message out, but you have to write it yourself. NAACP needed to be ready with a press release that named names and cited references. This is a missed opportunity to cause some good trouble.

@YourNeighbor57 One of the streaming services should stream Roots for a few months and hope folks view it again.
