Lay thine eyes upon this Selaginella willdenowii and see that it is… frankly far too beautiful to be real, but I assure you it is. Not only does it have the audacity to look like this, it’s doing so on the floor next to my bed. Rude. #mossyMoment #mosstodon #lichensubscribe #houseplants #terrarium
@TeaFrancis I would love to hear a little bit about the care you give it, if you have the time and interest in sharing. I have found caring for relatives of this plant to be tricky over time. I could use the tips! Thank you!
@SpaceAgeDruid I’d love to be able to tell you I’ve figured them out, but alas, I haven’t. I have 3 species currently, Selaginella willdenowii, apoda & uncinata. The uncinata is on & off. Seems to be doing really well for ages & then suddenly looks like crap for a while or dies completely. The willdenowii is in a warm sphagnum filled prop box with a light & seems to be growing well at the dimmer end of the box. The apoda is new to me so we shall see! 1/2
@SpaceAgeDruid Key seems to be regular nutrients, high humidity & lower light. Too much light seems to upset it, as does too long without a feed. If it gets even a little too dry it’ll go crispy & die. So far, the healthiest looking of mine are the portion of willdenowii that didn’t mysteriously die (all of it in the same conditions!) & a small piece of uncinata that is in a cloche with a jewel orchid. Time will tell if that remains the case I guess!
@TeaFrancis Thank you! I keep moving mine around and trying to notice any positive change.
