So I tooted but I think I was offline so if you feel like you've just seen the same text go past I apologize.
Does any Mastodon science bod know why a #HairRestoration lotion ("Regaine for women") which seems to contain the identical chemicals as "Regaine for men" make such a big deal about it not being
safe for men to use? Why not? What would happen? #MalePatternBaldness
And if you are Trans, which one would you use, if you needed to?

@Fizzfizzpopop I don't see anything about it being unsafe for men to use. As you say, it's the same chemical. Seems odd that any company would advertise their products as being unsafe for half the population. But their FAQ does note a key difference:

https://www.rogaine.com/faq.html#q26

It says the women's foam is once a day but the men's foam is twice a day, despite being the same concentration of the same chemical. It does not say why.

FAQs | Rogaine®

@WearsHats funnily enough I told my daughter earlier that women's stuff is usually untested on women, they just give us half the dose-ish. But looks like thats exactly what's going on. So if you have #MalePatternBaldness and use rogaine for women, you're only getting half the dose?
@Fizzfizzpopop I guess? The FAQ does say the women's was FDA tested on women.
As you say, that's rare, because hormonal fluctuations can complicate testing. (More to the point, FDA requires any symptom experienced during testing to be listed as a possible side effect, regardless of other explanations, including period cramps and so on.)
But you'd have to ask a dermatologist for more specifics on this one. All I know is Rogaine did nothing for my autoimmune alopecia.
@WearsHats ☹️ ah that sucks.
I'm also worried that I'm looking at #StressAlopecia rather than #MalePatternBaldness If the worry about hairloss is causing hairloss its going to be hard to break the anxiety cycle.. 😖
