@DaveRussell same over here. $40k in 1973 is worth $1,700,000. That means the annual appreciation was 8% for that 50 years. My daughter's family lived with us for 12 years. Loved the grandkids in the house but 7 people in 1934 sq ft was stressful for everybody. 😬
@DaveRussell This is what happens when you don't tax property enough. It sucks savings away from productive investment and inflates the value of static bricks and mortar. We need a land value tax on freeholds to balance things.
@DaveRussell @christineburns 650,000 is not a new buyers home. I just bought a three bed semi which has an attic conversion, a garage and a garden for 220,000 in the suburbs of north west leeds.
@DaveRussell This is why I never bought into the myth of home ownership.
@DaveRussell the cost of living, just surviving, stateside is completely bananas. You folks should hop over the pond to Europe and Britain even, and see just how much more affordable it is to survive (current energy crisis notwithstanding).
@DaveRussell "housing is always a good investment" policies have consequences (expensive housing)
@DaveRussell - don’t know where you live but near me in Gloucestershire there are quality 3 bed houses going for £300k.
