🚨 Methane (CH₄; potent greenhouse gas) reached another preliminary *record high* value in October 2022 (1920.3 ppb).

October 2021's global methane abundance was 1908.1 ppb.

Note there is a seasonal cycle. Data available from https://esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/ccgg/trends_ch4/.

The Global Monitoring Laboratory conducts research on greenhouse gas and carbon cycle feedbacks, changes in clouds, aerosols, and surface radiation, and recovery of stratospheric ozone.

@ZLabe
The trend is accelerating, an extremely worse development. It looks like we have reached tipping points. 😟
@ZLabe
The Russian attack on Ukraine and the subsequent sanctions and pipeline attacks didn't help.

@ZLabe One of the main factor is I believe, the intensive+extensive cattle farming, with collateral devastation of forest in at least Europe and Americas to feed them. More than 70% of farming is used to feed cattle. If we eat beans instead and had 70% of current farming lands used to grow forest, we would have a chance to recover fast from global warming. And CH4 is ~25 times worst for global warming than CO2.

May be the US bombing of the russo-german Nord-stream underwater gas pipelines in September 2022 didn’t helped either for this number.
