Clay Pot Candle Heaters: Do They Really Work? – Truth or Fiction?

As Texas struggled with atypical winter weather, videos instructing people how to construct a terracotta space heater assembled with candles went viral.

Truth or Fiction?

@TruthOrFiction I'm putting it to the test right now. The pot seems to provide radiant heat instead of the direct heat of the flames.

It's not going to heat the whole house, but it might take the edge off the cold air.

I should mention that the power is out and it's 5 degrees outside.

@TruthOrFiction After 5 hours the room was down to 60 degrees, which was pretty cold. However, the terracotta pots work better than candles alone because that heat goes straight to the ceiling. Once the pots warm up and you're near them, it does make a difference.
@parabolicmirror Were you able to stay warm enough? We just wanted people to be as careful as possible while still staying warm!
@TruthOrFiction It's better than just candles, but it wouldn't keep a whole room warm
