I saw that Tobias Jesso Jr won two Grammys last night, and was confused because I *loved* his 2015 debut album and saw him on that tour, but hadn’t heard anything about a followup album. Turns out he hated touring/press so much, he had a bit of a breakdown and cancelled his tours. He was rescued by Adele, who was a huge fan of his songs, and they wrote “When We Were Young” together, kickstarting his songwriting career for others. https://www.gq.com/story/tobias-jesso-jr-adele-harry-styles-2023-grammys-songwriter-of-the-year

I’m happy that he’s happy and doing so well, but sad we’ll likely never get another solo album from him. Goon was an achingly beautiful album. Highly recommended for fans of Harry Nilsson and Randy Newman. https://songwhip.com/tobias-jesso-jr/goon

@andybaio I’ve never heard him, but love Nilsson and Newman, and this just looks like a “sad boy piano music” album, which is definitely a preferred genre for me.

@andybaio @Antichrista I **loved** his debut album and I was on your same page. I had no idea about his life after that!
@andybaio Yeah! Awesome. Definitely Newman- and Nilsson-esque, in both playing and singing styles. From these two songs, maybe more earnest? I’ll listen to this album today! Thanks, Andy! (Thandy)
