"The Warriors" is an unusual 1979 film about a lethal conflict between New York City youth gangs that all takes place in one night. Filming was on location throughout the city, capturing the area at that time like few films I've ever seen. Very controversial when released -- some theaters backed out of showing it -- the film has become a true cult classic over the years, and I recommend it highly.

@lauren My high school showed it on film night in, oh, 1984 or so. One of the most memorable movies I saw at that age.

Not sure what the intended message was for the school. "Don't join a gang or you'll be chased by a bully clinking beer bottles together."

@jannem Imagine if they had showed "A Clockwork Orange".

@lauren They did - first time I saw that movie was at film night.

We also saw stuff like The seventh seal, Jag är nyfiken gul (mildly NSFW), Casablanca and more. Someone at that school had really good taste in movies.

@jannem When I was a kid, my residential summer camp made the mistake of not only putting me in charge of running the projector for the weekly movies (there was no TV reception or TVs up there), but also of *choosing* the movies that were ordered in by mail. Previously to my taking over they had selections like "Captains Courageous". I altered the programming, uh, considerably.
@jannem Malcolm showed up for the most recent screening I attended not too many years ago of Clockwork. Very cool.
