The Republicans use culture war propaganda as a distraction.

Without health insurance, most people would be bankrupt with a single hospitalization.

But that’s what Republicans want. One party is out to help most people. The other is dead set against them.

When Republicans rant about ‘socialism,’ remember the Affordable Care Act

The lowest uninsured rate ever is something to celebrate.

The Washington Post

@TonyStark Here's one. This isn't an ACA plan. There's an early paragraph that's a bit misleading. It says that 1 in 7 claims are denied and then gives the figure of ACA plan denials that aren't appealed.

We need more socialized health care, not less.

The United States government funds the development of drugs, then the drug companies turn around and make huge profits on them. If they decide your treatment is too expensive, they can deny it and try to make you pay out of pocket like they did with Christopher McNaughton. He was facing nearly a million dollars of denied claims for his ulcerative colitis and a lapse in his care could have left him with no treatment that would have worked. UnitedHealthcare kept denying his claims and decided to pay for a drug that was four times the cost of the original one his doctors wanted because it matched their arcane rules.

Medicare for All won't solve everything but it would be an improvement.

UnitedHealthcare Tried to Deny Coverage to a Chronically Ill Patient. He Fought Back, Exposing the Insurer’s Inner Workings.

After a college student finally found a treatment that worked, the insurance giant decided it wouldn’t pay for the costly drugs. His fight to get coverage exposed the insurer’s hidden procedures for rejecting claims.

@MariaHill M4A is a slogan. A stupid one for youngsters who have no idea what what. From an old man who doesn’t need it. As a recipient of Medicare, trust me, it’s not all that. Medicaid for all is a solution to strive for. And ACA has this built in. Some Medicaid expansion happened, and will hopefully continue
@MariaHill @edgeoforever
Despite the name, Medicare for All is NOT the current Medicare benefits plans. It’s a greatly expanded, no pay at the site of treatment or for prescriptions, plan that takes insurance companies out of the healthcare business entirely. It also should cover vision and dental.

@dawnfry @edgeoforever

Dawnfry, you are describing traditional Medicaid. They went with Medicare for All because of the stigma Medicaid For All would bring.

@edgeoforever @paul
Medicaid benefits greatly vary by state, some choosing to provide significantly more benefits than required, and some not. So what people think of when that program is discussed is determined by what state they are from. (My state is notorious for doing the absolute minimum required, and doing that poorly.)

I wish they’d chosen an entirely new name, so people wouldn’t make assumptions about what it does based on current programs.

@dawnfry @edgeoforever

That's why I said Traditional Medicaid.

I agree with the M4A being confusing, but they wanted to attach to something that is popular. Medicare is. They even say as much.

Coverage wise, Traditional Medicaid, aka papercard Medicaid, is the same for all states and provides everything M4A hopes to accomplish. It would need to adapted price wise.

Your state, as many other do, is operating under a Medicaid waiver or experiment, approved by CMS. They are republican scams.

@dawnfry @edgeoforever
2/ FYI, not being argumentative or trolling. Just conversating. Spent much of my professional life in this business and then watched everything di$appear after deva$ting diagno$i$ and then had to leave a state like yours that does the bare minimum to a Medicaid Expanded state

Whatever it ends up being called, let's hope something is done on a massive scale

The current systems are broken

@MariaHill @TonyStark United Health Care are the worst

@MariaHill @TonyStark I agree with your sentiment. I've lived in many places with public health care and they do a better job at public health.

How do we make that happen? Implement it in the US. Push back on oligarchs who want to privatize and take everything while people die of preventable diseases.

They will destroy anything we use to organize. And don't think they won't murder either. So, we must be clear headed. And we must set achievable short term goals that lead us to the bigger goal.

@MariaHill @TonyStark I'm like 1000% on board with this!
