Report from our club member RL Miller, who is also a #DNC delegate, on the debate for which states should go first in presidential primaries next year:

At DNC meeting now listening to #SouthCarolina Dems chair Trav Robertson describe Misguided, Apathetic, Greedy, Angry folk... IMO he is too nice. But I can't find acronyms for Traitorous Insurrectionist Fascists so I will stick with MAGAts.

On a more serious note, we are now taking up the motion to shift First In The Nation primary order from IA and NH to SC, NH and NV, MI, and GA. Chair Harrison is giving room to IA and NH to speak but we expect the motion to pass overwhelmingly.

I appreciate the WH/ DNC plan to broaden #FITN voices. And I personally think replacing Iowa with #Michigan is really good. But NH is in a different place, between a rock and a hard place.

2/6

NH Dems literally cannot do what the DNC wants because the state gov, legislature, and sec of state are uncooperative Repubs. E.g., DNC wants NH to have #EarlyVoting. NH Dems introduced that bill and NH GOP voted it down. #FITN

And of course NH has a state law requiring its primary to be 7 days before any other state. So DNC plan is running headlong into state law. #FITN

Meanwhile Rep. Debbie Dingell gives an impassioned speech for Michigan... go ice fishing, candidates, we'll see how tough you are. No one state has a lock on #FITN, she says, to much applause

Dems from NV, SC, and GA also make their cases for #FITN. Nikema Williams, GA st party chair and Congressmember: GA is periwinkle! Pete Lee, AAPI child of immigrants, adds his voice in support for a more diverse FITN.

4/6

The DNC plan to revamp #FITN passes on an overwhelming voice vote. NH delegation behind me votes no, as does Iowa in a different corner of the room. Historic change, big implications for Dem process for choosing next Pres in 2028.

After this historic vote we DNC members hear from Gov Josh Shapiro, Rep Jim Clyburn, and (video) Sen John Fetterman, whose speech is mercifully brief.

Meeting ends with an actual date and place for next meeting, Oct 5-7 in St Louis Missouri. And a spontaneous outburst of singing Happy Birthday to chair
Jaime Harrison. 🥰
