I like paying taxes.
I like taxes because I like streetlights and disease prevention and rescuing people from floods.
Grown-ups know taxes are necessary to run a country. MAGA demagogues hope their followers are so childish that they'll buy that "defund the IRS" bullshit.

@markjacob The USA, like the UK, has a progressive taxation system - the more you get the more tax you pay. Now look at Trump's tax returns as an example of the way the system is being dodged. He, and his ilk, are gaming the system. Why should I be happy about paying taxes when the rich can little if any? It's greed that's breaking the system

Those Republican voters know damn well that they IRS goes after us because they can't afford to go after wealthy people. They know damn well that defunding the IRS hurts middle class people and benefits the elites.

But they are obedient little serfs and fall to their knees and do whatever benefits our lords and ladies.

They have already proven how childish they are.

GOP only has to tell their voters that shooting each other will really "own the libs" and they will do it. Same for why they are defunding the IRS - owning the libs is more important than self-preservation to those voters.

I don't dislike paying taxes or any of the things that taxes buy.

I don't like paying taxes where:
- how my taxes are assessed is unfair or un-knowable
- having to pay taxes according to incomprehensible rules that put me under threat of fine and or incarceration if I screw up paying
- I made to pay taxes without representation among those who assess the tax

There's no reason paying taxes should be difficult, except that certain people in power prefer things as they are.

There is no reason elections should be difficult, but here we are.

There are simply certain people in power who do not want things to work better.

SAY IT WITH ME, THEY DO NOT WANT THINGS TO WORK BETTER.

I like paying dues.
My dues pay for renting my club’s meeting hall and for tonight’s refreshments.
Some of my dues go to my club’s national office to fund projects that advance club goals.
Unlike small clubs our membership is from all income levels so we have a sliding scale.
Our less fortunate members pay no dues at all. In fact, some of our natonal projects provide much of their needs.
Our wealthy members happily pay many times over regular dues at a sponsorship level.
