It’s an open-door instance with no oversight and the Nazis and trolls are taking advantage of that to harass from accounts they make there. So other instances are silencing and defederating.
The term I’ve heard is “zombie instance”. Without knowing anything or ability to reach admin, there’s no way to know if it’ll suddenly fall down so folks are scrambling.

@AtomicCowBell @twizzay @UnFitz step 1 is back up your network as soon as you read this. I know it sounds alarmist but if something stops working suddenly (a not uncommon event) it’s highly likely nobody is going to bother fixing it. Best be prepared.

Always a good option, if you wanna. I really like the existence of a well populated and varied local timeline of a self-selecting group based on something that matters to me for doomscrolling and curating my own feed. So I chose an instance I know will provide me with regional (national) news and conversation with a large enough population base to ensure variety of voices.

I’d say find a smallish stable instance but mine was that when I joined and by the next week had another 10k users. Lol.
