Why do some people use GitLab instead of GitHub? GitHub is so much easier!

If they use something self-hosted like gitea or something I can understand and agree (even tho I still prefer GitHub - easier to follow, get updates, send issues, etcetera), but that’s not the case: it’s one centralized service for another.

(Now that I think about it, it’d be really nice to have some kind of federated decentralized git service. Kinda like ActivityPub, but for Git. So you could have a GitHub account and follow/star a project on GitLab, for example)

@luana I like Gitlabs CI/CD system, I dislike microsoft and Gitlab gives me repos for my docker images (idk if github has this)
@luana The reason I dropped Github support and moved elsewhere is that they had a paid contract with the United States' Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) which has tried to deport my family to Mexico because they came here illegally about 40 years ago and me as well even though I was born on US soil
@luana

i got some good news for ya then

gitea's fork forgejo is working on federation via forgefed(activity pub) & both openid & oauth2 have been in gitea/forgejo for a while now

(gitea seams like it was working on it but after the gitea going for-profit at lot of the devs who were working on it seemd to have switched over to forgejo now)

@luana also if you need CI/CD woodpecker is what codeberg CI/CD is based on

@luana
