Ponzi scheme? 🤔

Twitter will start paying creators... if they pay Twitter first!

Elon Musk says that Twitter will share revenue with content creators *only if* they subscribe $8/month to Twitter Blue.

In other words, Twitter gets paid when they recruit enough suckers...err, "downline distributors".

This sounds a lot like Amway!

Or worse -- one of those shady crypto schemes!

On another note...

If you're still a Twitter user, how excited are you about ads appearing in reply threads?

🤩

@atomicpoet Someone like Rob Manuel running the fesshole bot could end up suddenly fairly well off if Twitter really did start paying for the millions of impressions his robots get.

Wonder how that would balance against the API fees?

Pay with one hand, take away with the other.

@atomicpoet so many breach of contracts coming up. He’s basically exiling all out of the platform he’s train wrecking.
@atomicpoet curious how that's going to be implemented (besides poorly). Not to kick off that debate again, but this would be the *other* issue with QTs: Who gets engagement from a post. Only now there could be real money involved.
@atomicpoet I'm no rocket surgeon, but this sounds stupid. 🧐
@atomicpoet I know he’s been talking about adding payment system to the app to make purchases. I would guess you’d get paid in Twittercoins only spendable through the app. They could earn interest on what you have stored there, like Starbucks
@eggwards What an amazing innovation!
@eggwards @atomicpoet Sounds like #QElon is just reinventing exactly what Roblox is doing with its Robux, but driving people away from it.
@atomicpoet Someone is definitely going to find a way to game this system, and I am here for it.
@atomicpoet that means twitter is gonna start serving a lot more ads

@atomicpoet @tchambers

Stealing #Post ideas? While his #birdsite tracks ever lower revenue?

Musk’s primary talents are: Ponzi-ish finance schemes; plus gaslighting-infused self-promotion and ‘marketing’.

@atomicpoet the posts that are going to make the most, those with the most engagement, are people getting ratio'ed. So that's whats about to flood the birdsite, lol.

@atomicpoet So, how is all that stayey fighty stuff going anyway?

#twittermigration

@atomicpoet It's called Pay to Play. Musk wants a fee for access to the platform for the purposes of promotion/advertising content. It's not illegal in most cases (there are some cases in which it is). But Musk seems unable to grasp why users remain at Twitter — it's to consume content, and discouraging content creation with upfront fees suppresses content creation.

@atomicpoet “Pay us $8, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get 45 cents back!”

@atomicpoet that's not a Ponzi scheme.

It's stupid, but let's not slap Ponzi on every dumb financial idea.

@atomicpoet pay $8, get 8 cents, maybe
@atomicpoet Anyone stupid enough to trust him on this deserves to get ripped off. Blaming the victim is not usually my style, but Musk is practically smacking people in the face with red flags at this point.
