A tidbit I just came across, for #FolkloreFriday

In parts of Transylvania it used to be a habit to chew pine resin (as if it was chewing gum). People did it for fun, or to clean their teeth, or to gather saliva for spinning thread.

Apparently, young men gifted pre-chewed resin to the girls they fancied. If the girl accepted the gift, it meant she liked the guy.

In case you needed gift ideas for #ValentinesDay... 😄

@TarkabarkaHolgy
I’m sure my wife would be over the moon to receive some pre-chewed resin for Valentines 😆
@TarkabarkaHolgy My mother here in Sweden would also chew it like gum as a child. No mention of any pre-chewed gifts though. 😅
@TarkabarkaHolgy ...that is amazing. I love people.
@TarkabarkaHolgy thank you for the tip. My wife is going to be so pleased. I'm just going out to find some pine resin now.
@TarkabarkaHolgy particularly as we're going to have to cancel our valentines day hotel stay because its going to clash with my much needed hip replacement op of which I've just been notified😉
@TarkabarkaHolgy I used to chew resin as a kid and I'd get scolded a lot and told it's bad for your health. Turns out I should have just told my parents I was being Transylvanian 😁
@TarkabarkaHolgy Probably tastes better than those chalky little hearts!
@TarkabarkaHolgy My husband will appreciate it for sure :D
@TarkabarkaHolgy Nothing says "hey there baby, let's swap some spit" like the gift of ABC resin!
