Concerns Over Proposed Nine Mile Canyon Road Expansion - site of the highest concentration of monochromatic Indigenous rock art in North America #RockArt#Petroglyphs#NineMileCanyon#Utah apple.news/An9S5qKSMN1CmxEV1K2…
@gratefulwolf this is really bad news. About 10 years ago we did a study to compare the impact of trucks on Nine Mile Canyon with the bad impacts of LNG exploitation by Woodside on the rock art of Murujuga. We found that the behaviour by Bill Barrett and others at NMC was much better involving consultation with relevant stakeholders and minimisation of impact. This report does not mention Ute people and sounds very bad.
@gratefulwolf I ended up with very strong views about cultural heritage. It is the duty of all of us who think it is important to keep telling the story about why it is important because even when we think the battle has been won, we find that there is a proposal to destroy it from some developer, usually with an interest in making money for themselves out of something that will help destroy the planet (as here and in Murujuga).
