Date with a Distro: Nobara Linux

@pn3uma
Solid video! Thanks for going through all that and showing us the real experience in real-time. I'll probably skip Nobara and just stay with Debian šŸ˜† .

I am really curious about running a regular Linux distro on a 2-in-1 laptop though. I love putting my Pixelbook into tablet mode to read comic books. I saw you were testing to see if tapping inside of a text input would also bring up the on-screen keyboard. Is that something you used a lot in Fedora 37 before trying out Nobara?

@berkough I used onscreen keyboard all the time on Fedora until the latest version 37 that included ā€œimprovementsā€ to GNOME like predictive typing. It was erasing, replacing input as I typed and showing my passwords in clear text. That and the removal of proprietary media codecs spelt the beginning of the end for me and Fedora, unfortunately.

@berkough if you are on Pixelbook, you might enjoy Endless OS. It looks like a Chrome clone, is based on Debian but uses an immutable OSTree file system.

Ubuntu MATE has Onboard out of the box. I’ve also had success with Zorin OS when it comes to onscreen keyboards.

With Debian, I had more success with 10 than 11 on a touchscreen as the vertical layout GNOME 3.38 takes less screen real estate than 42 with its horizontal layout, desktop overviews

Good luck!
