In light of recent developments regarding the #twitter API (it will no longer be free) and the likely ripple effects this will have on other websites and services, I humbly submit this updated version of an old #xkcd comic:

Dependency

@bpettis Twitter must die. That's a merciful thing to do.
@bpettis ooo, what are you using to mark that up?
@bpettis @fuzzface every time I see this comic… I also think of #Windows

@bpettis Luckily I have a feeling the world will happily continue without #twitter, and people will easily find ways to replace/change their business models to stop revolving around a website for tiny text messages.
I do see some problems where countries stupidly have based their public alert systems on twitter, but that's easily remedied, and getting it off twitter would be an improvement anyway.

Unlike ImageMagick. I have not installed a single piece of software that did not depend on it. The world would probably end without ImageMagick.

@bpettis people think the Internet is run by Bezos and Gates and Zuckerberg. In fact, it's all based on something called something like RANK, which stands for Rob's Awesome Number Kruncher, which is most likely a GitHub repository written by some guy who was having trouble balancing his checkbook in 1996 and getting shared his source code.
