Twitter just announced free access to the Twitter API will end on February 9, with unannounced pricing or usage details, effectively killing every free fun and useful thing ever built with it: bots, games, mashups, visualizations, research projects, autoposters, autoblockers, deleters, and so much more. https://twitter.com/twitterdev/status/1621026986784337922

“Starting February 9, we will no longer support free access to the Twitter API, both v2 and v1.1. A paid basic tier will be available instead 🧵”

@andybaio I wonder what this means for services that (exclusively) allow to sign in with Twitter
@nilsding I’ve been wondering the same thing
@andybaio I genuinely wonder if Twitter have anyone left in a decision influencing capacity who's thought about that question before they made this announcement
@simon @andybaio I’ve never watched someone fly a plane into the side of a mountain in real-time until now.
@andybaio @simon considering it seemed they turned off the MFA or at least broke it/ descaled it / the service so users couldn’t login, and this broke their DAU’s, I doubt there is any influence on the personification of a Meme stock

@nilsding @andybaio If nothing else, it means I’d be very wary about offering it as an option these days. It might vanish without warning, or go pay-wall.
