New blog post just dropped: "The Obsidian Order", a little bit about the open-source cross-platform own-your-own-data note taking tool called Obsidian. Let me know what you think! :) https://whateverthing.com/blog/2023/01/31/the-obsidian-order/

I've been trying out a note-taking tool called Obsidian for the past few months. I'm enjoying it quite a ...
@kboyd Thanks, this is a good impetus for taking a look at Obsidian again. I currently use Bear, but I've used nvALT, a folder of documents I open in my text editor, and others, and never been completely happy. Last time I did a survey of options I excluded Obsidian for some reason (I think it was lacking polish and felt klunky on macOS), but it looks much improved since then.
@kboyd My requirements are excellent Markdown support (Bear is close, but not quite there), support for checkboxes, reliable syncing with mobile (not ending up with frequent conflicts, as I switch back and forth a lot), ability to attach files/images, and organization with tags. Aside from that, just needs to be pleasant to use. Just tried it for a few minutes, but it appears Obsidian checks these boxes.
@borsboom yep, I've been very happy with it. I haven't tried using it with files/images yet, not sure about that, but I suspect images would work with the normal markdown syntax and some sort of relative URI
@kboyd I've been meaning to try it, so reading your experiences was helpful, especially given the similarities of some parts of our lives! 😆 How flexible is that "today's note" feature anyway? I kinda need one that's like 2 or 3 days at a crack that I can hit "reset" on. Maybe I'll need to write my own extension....
@muddylaces@kboyd it's so powerful, I've managed to build a usable ISO 27k ISMS in it without it turning in a complete rats nest of isolated documents I've seen other 'productivity suite' manage.
