Honestly, it don't matter what Desantis bans. They never taught us the truth at any point in THEIR schools anyway. Fuck his bans.

It's your responsibility to build the library your kids need in your house. Buy your own books. We know our history and don't require their approval to teach OR learn it. You don't have to force it on the young. Just put it there. Their curiosity will win out.

Real talk, while I do have a huge problem with the AP Af-am bit -- I'm undecided right now on how important all of the DEI stuff was in the first place, and I teach in an FL college.

Like, yeah his motives are garbage, but I'm not sure that the DEI stuff was doing much at all.

But then books aren't free which made me wonder how long before someone starts making a stink about what's on offer in neighborhood free libraries (or being sent out by people like Dolly Parton!). Damn, shouldn't have said anything, now DeSantis is going to prosecute someone for disseminating damaging literature to minors via their free library, isn't he?

@pwn_toney Those who have the resources and the desire to educate their kids can do this. But what about the kids who are being denied the resources they need, either by poverty or by their own horrible parents? We need libraries, and we need those libraries to have all kinds of books, including the ones DeSantis despises.

@not2b No solution will work for all people. Folks will need to develop plans for those who don't have great parents or financial access. There will be lots of potential solutions sans getting Desantis out of office. There's no real way for me to speak to all things for all people and I certainly don't have all the answers.

@pwn_toney the main problem is the kids who will not be learning anything but hate and prejudice at home, and the school will not be a counterweight. I would be much less if my parents had had control of my education, and not teachers.
