Back in 2002, when the skateway didn’t open till Feb. 2, I was an intern at the Ottawa Citizen, assigned to produce a “Canalwatch” item every day until the damn thing opened. I do not know nearly as much about the skateway as the people who work on the skateway, but I know “The end of this assignment is coming” weather when I see it.
B0bcaygeon@davidreevely Every year, I wonder if someone at the NCC will see the light and that they will stop restricting access to the canal until heavy machinery can drive on it. I know these thoughts aren't realistic, but when I look at the Netherlands and the super thin ice they get on their canals, I wish Ottawa could be a bit more laid back. In the end, I just want a few "use at own risk" signs. Ditto, for every outside stairway along the canal in lieu of actual shoveling.
kris@davidreevely That’s the second thing I thought when I initially saw the weekend forecast. The first, of course, was a giant nope to going out where the wind will hurt my face.
