Maybe my grief is for a world that kills its prophets and belatedly inflates and glorifies its martyrs, rather than celebrating their gifts, limitations, and humanity while they live.

What a Shrink Thinks
@shrinkthinks A martyr is an ordinary Christian who had a very bad day.
Prophets are people who say true things that are sometimes uncomfortable to people who don't want to hear what they need to hear. We shouldn't see them as superheroes, just as people who express love in a particular way.

Observations

@shrinkthinks This is huge: Maybe my grief is for a world that kills its prophets and belatedly inflates and glorifies its martyrs, rather than celebrating their gifts, limitations, and humanity while they live.

Maybe I mourn for us, and for who we are and what we do to each other, instead of for them.

@shrinkthinks this was beautiful, Martha.
