#OnThisDay, 29 Jan 1891, Liliʻuokalani is sworn in as Queen of Ko Hawaiʻi Pae ʻĀina (the Hawaiian Kingdom).

She was the first, and only, queen.

She was deposed in a coup in 1893 that was supported by US marines and ultimately led to Hawaii’s annexation by the US.
