learned yesterday from @[email protected] that because coptic christianity started in egypt in the first couple centuries AD, a lot of coptic songs & practices may be bastardised/hijacked versions of prior religious practices that existed at the time.... i.e. ancient egyptian religion

@balfies There's gnostics of course, there's arguments of Buddhist influences on early Christianity, there's things like Dennis MacDonald's theory of Mark being a deliberate imitation of Homeric epics etc.

@balfies Even more interesting once you know that a lot of early Muslim practices come from Coptic Christians amongst their community. ^^
