Just got my first AirTag. Which means I just discovered you can’t share an AirTag location with a family member. Seems dumb!
@dan it’s also fun when my wife and I swap keys and both get alerts
@cory Sounds like a weird edge chase that never could have been predicted.
@dan that and, well, any sort of travel. Telling it not to bug me when I leave stuff at a hotel would be cool
@cory @dan Yeah, seems like you should be able to tell it you will be staying somewhere from X to Y to avoid those notifications. I don’t have an AirTag but the same thing happens with AirPods.
@intastella @dan that’s all I want -- even if it wants to glean context from my calendar.
@cory @dan It also seems like a good addition to share an AirTag with someone. Maybe it’s just hard since it’s tied to an Apple ID.
@dan let me blow your mind with what blew my mind when I learned it (recently): that thing is ALSO an NFC tag. Like, you can set it up as a thing you bonk your phone on to start a Shortcut. (WhT you discovered is in fact dumb. But this is very cool 🙂)
@dan Happened to me a few weeks ago. Got one that goes in an AppleTV remote case, which seems like a great use case. Except now only my wife can find it.🙃
@dan your AirTag can speak?
@dan Too easy for stalking. Not dumb!

@glennf @dan certainly frustratingly limiting. I similarly didn’t know about that when I bought my first to put on the family AppleTV remote (https://mstdn.link/?to=https://mastodon.social/@film_girl/109771196510685137) and probably wouldn’t have if I’d known I would be the only one able to use it.

I wonder if there isn’t a better balance to be found, perhaps with some mutual opt-in? After all, my whole family can see one another’s devices in Find My already, so it doesn’t seem like adding an AirTag to the mix has adds much additional risk.

My Apple TV remote is somewhere in my bed because it turned the TV on, but I cannot find it. This is why we need a built-in AirTag on it.

@glennf @dan how does two people tracking the same AirTag up that risk over one? I feel there’s some element I’m missing. This is definitely a use case I’ve wanted solved as well.
@dan this is very dumb. It’s for this reason that me and my partner still have to use a Tile on our shared car keys. I’d much rather use an AirTag.
