I did not write the main cover story. I did pitch and write the ‘develop with web services and APIs’ piece as best I could given: a) I am an idiot; b) print w/ screenshots is a terrible format for the subject. (A custom Google Maps integration was my baby-steps example.) At least I managed to interview some guy called Cal who knew a bit about APIs.
If just one person made it through that piece and thought ‘huh, APIs seem interesting’ and started using APIs to create stuff then I’ll feel like I did my job.
November 2005. I am still not quite sure what’s going on here.

Mine is the Ajax feature, written as a kind of follow up to the API piece. During this period I was _trying_ to introduce some basic Web 2.0 concepts in very broad terms to show existing uses and where things were likely headed. (Writer/devs like Rachel Andrew were so much better than me at step-by-step tutorials and design specifics.)

I never paid much attention to the spreads when they appeared. That was probably for the best.

@holgate OMG you're the motherfucker responsible for single-page apps what the literal fuck Nick.
