A national tragedy. An Australian is now dying of COVID every 25 minutes. Even worse than last week as the numbers are updated after delayed reporting

1,586 deaths reported in the 1st 27 days of 2023. That’s more than in the whole of 2021. That’s 59 reported deaths a day 1/n

@keagar imagine the screaming headline if this was the road toll, how much investment would be straight into a policing / public education campaign effort to reduce it - at the moment it seems the political leadership strategy is close your eyes and pretend it doesn’t exist.

@TheMickMorris yes, imagine if someone died on the roads ever 25 minutes. The community would be outraged and demand action from government. But the community is not outraged about a COVID death every 25 minutes and all Australian governments are asleep at the wheel
