here are the images from my visit to the new grand central terminal for the LIRR today. cleanest station i've ever been in (and likely i'll ever be in).
first signs of the new station where on the S train platforms, crazy to see LIRR next to metro north and grand central after so long
first signs of the new terminal were very grand and very modern, in a relatively tasteful way.
now we get onto the main concourse type area. it's quite nice in its current state without being full of shops and stuff. felt very open when i was there, and looking back at the photos the architecture is tasteful. reminds me of the original grand central concourse with a bit more of a modern feel.
here's the first departure board i saw. so cool seeing lirr departures next to this modern of infrastructure.
on the way down to the platform/lower level area. escalators are quite steep here, also new york is obsessed with their weird symbols.
when you arrive at the lower level it leaves you at a mezzanine type area, with 2 sets of tracks above, and 2 sets below. this image is of the one furthest from the entrance from the main concourse, but there is another set of 4 closer to the main concourse.
love the tile art at the ends of the corridors between the two sets of 4 tracks.
lower level platforms look like this
love the random quotes on the sides of the mezzanine level showing new york's elitism.
upper level platforms
M9s match the station so well. they're also so quiet, and were comfy to ride on.
anyway thats pretty much my trip. it's a super nice station overall, and i'm glad that it's finally finished after like >40 years or something.
