TikToker Floored After Catching Elderly Seatmate On Flight Typing A Racist Email About Her

Worst seatmate ever?

Comic Sands

@georgetakei

Sorry, I don't see anything racist there. Two black ladies sat next to her and she wrote exactly that in her remark. (Maybe there is more to it, but that's the information given to us.) She didn't write that it's because the woman next to her is black that she wants another seat.

I also don't see what is "ableist" about pretending to be disabled (or more disabled than actually) in order to get help. The word simply doesn't fit.

Pure manufactured outrage here.

@Kazinator @georgetakei No, that's not what she wrote. She called them "very large dolled-up black ladies, one of whom is extremely hostile", which is an insult and not a "remark". Mentioning someone's skin colour in an insult is definitely racist and completely unnecessary.

If one really needs to criticise someone, at least don't adjust the insult based on skin colour?

And I would also be upset if the person next to me did that right in front of me. It's very passive-aggressive.

@sigsegv @georgetakei

A stark description of you written in a private message between strangers isn't an insult.

It looks like those passengers next to her were in fact large black ladies, who were dolled up.

About the hostile part, there is no way to know. Since it was written in a private message to her friend, we have to take it as a honest impression, whether right or wrong. Maybe she is prone to reading hostility into ordinary actions, which is certainly a personality problem.

@Kazinator @georgetakei It's not a "private" message when you deliberately show your phone to the person you're insulting (or at least don't care if they see it). And if her goal was to describe the woman as accurately as possible, why didn't she talk about her hair colour/length or her clothes, etc?
Still, she's not filling in a suspect description form or anything 🤷

Try to think about it for a moment. I think you too should understand why mentioning skin colour in an insult is bad.
