Thoughts on Medications Reminders from iOS 16. TL;DR: It’s not that good.

First of all, I’m *always* missing my meds. You’d think notifications are the whole point about this feature… yet it feels completely rushed. Having notifications flagged as “Time Sensitive” is not enough—they should be as annoying as an alarm! Or at least try to remind me more than once.

Alarms, even without sound, do a better job of grabbing attention by taking over the Lock Screen. This feature doesn’t even do that.

And don’t get me started on Focus modes. Whenever they’re enabled it will typically means that my reminder will be buried away with the rest of the hidden notifications.

There’s a feature to use your camera that will automatically scan medications. It is cool and it works (in Chile of all places!).

It bothers me though they spent time doing such an ‘Apple thing’ instead of making the reminders feature actually useful.

Obviously it’s Apple and they can’t help themselves.

The UI is nice, it saddens me a bit that it’s kinda stranded under the Health app, at least on iPhone. It’s not even a tab. Tap on Browse → Medications.

On Apple Watch there’s a dedicated app, which I believe makes a ton of sense.

On an iPad or any other device, there’s no way to log in medications or receive reminders.

This time zone awareness thing is cool. It let me know as soon as I landed.
