i rushed Pictures From Home on #Broadway today and as a photographer (and/or a person with a tendency to over-narrativize my own life) it emotionally devastated me (in a good way).

i had no idea what to expect from this show but it was a profound, and profoundly moving, piece of #theatre that i’ll be thinking about for some time.

it also makes a very interesting contrast with Fun Home, which i only saw a few months ago in a regional production. both stories in which artists attempt to make sense of their families, while the family is also on the stage, complicating the effort to construct a portrait or memoir (and pointing out that you can’t have one without the other, especially where family is concerned).
