Ventura settings is still going great. https://mstdn.social/@rusl/109744110966337618

Attached: 1 image @[email protected] Mac Settings app contributes to be garbage UI. The Done button is half off the dialog box and it’s not scrollable. When I add my other Yubikeys it might not even be visible. How hard is it to resize a dialog box?? Clearly they don’t care one bit.

@siracusa They certainly succeeded in making it like iOS in that I can't find anything now and constantly have to use the search function.

@siracusa

A corporation can have a huge amount of talent and money and still be dysfunctional. I assume there was some infighting about the changes to settings that screwed up development.

@siracusa it feels like the difference between Windows and MacOS is starting to come down to “muscle memory” instead of design. 😕

@siracusa Ugh. It's easily the worst part of Ventura.

I don't agree with the "as bad as Windows UI" people. This has nothing to do with taste. This is pure QA process failure.

Both functional and non-functional.

Microsoft settings are abhorrent and poorly thought out, but at least they do what they say.

In Settings, half the the time I'm in doubt whether I actually achieved my goal!

@aw @siracusa of course it’s the worst part. It’s basically the major change in the OS. That it looked so bad in the later betas gave away that it was only three-quarters baked on release. Why does opening System Settings take me to Appearance, half the way down? Because Appearance was the first one in the old System Preferences. So why isn’t it first now?? Shrug. Why not start at General?
@siracusa it’s pretty terrible, I basically need to use search for everything… no idea how it shipped with so many hidden hierarchies
@siracusa I don't know if you've noticed this - but Ventura settings doesn't seem to have any capability to change the password for an email account!
@siracusa it’s just a beta in GM’s clothing
@siracusa To be fair, the iCloud panel was a half-broken mix of native and broken web UI even in System Preferences.
@siracusa macOS os looking more and more like a badly made Gnome theme.

@siracusa What am I looking at here?

…no, really, what even *is* this?!

@siracusa i have a brand new M2 MB Air with the display settings one notch away from the default density. I can’t use the print UI because the print button is out of the view box.
@siracusa settings.app still feels like it’s in beta, so many months after official release. just baffling, what was the macOS team thinking?
@siracusa oh no I forgot about the settings app. I have been avoiding Ventura, but I needed to upgrade my wife’s laptop to use freeform. So much regret now.
@siracusa Tell Apple I'm not updating to Ventura until they fix Settings. (Or Xcode requires it. 🙄)
@siracusa I feel like we need a “Ventura Settings UI is going Great” blog now
@siracusa so disappointing. Getting this stuff right used to be top priority. From my experience it’s an organizational culture thing and I fear it is slipping away from Apple’s software teams. It is hard to overcome the business forces and process that press against doing the details right once the culture erodes.
@siracusa @chrismarquardt there once was a time when Apple took care of every pixel … and when they thought through the way how things works … *sigh*
@siracusa Shhhh buy more Apple services.
