Waking up to see the horror that a terrorist has murdered 10 people and injured 10+ more in AAPI majority Monterey Park, CA where tens of thousands of Asian American families WERE gathered to celebrate the Lunar New Year. The terrorist is still at large per media and police reports.

I’m outraged. 33 mass shootings & 2539 gun deaths just 22 days into 2023. I just don’t have the words. 😓

Here’s the media story.
•10 killed in Monterrey Park
•10+ injured
•Male suspect fled & is still at large

All these folks were doing was celebrating the new year. And they suffered terrorism and death. This is what GOP considers “freedom.” Smh horrific.

@QasimRashid California does not have lax gun laws but it is so easy to drive to Nevada to get all you need.

@pennyivy @QasimRashid

From Monterey?

@Freedom2B Monterey Park is in So Cal. Seven hour drive to Las Vegas. A person from Monterey would likely drive to Tahoe. Or just obey California law.

@pennyivy @Freedom2B

But you can be in Primm in less than 3. All that's required is to be within the state line.

@InsufficientC8H11NO2 @Freedom2B Thanks, I was just approximating. I keep thinking of the Gilroy shooting in '19. He bought his gun in Nevada.

@pennyivy

Holy cats, I had pictured it in the north. Thank you.

@QasimRashid I remember a time when I would play with my friends in homes that had guns safely stored and those friends wouldn't sit down for a week if they went near them. Our society is nothing more than 'baby men and women' who are emotionally stunted and immature.
@ReneeVoiceBrand @QasimRashid
When I was a kid, my dad, who was a WW2 era vet, had a .45 Colt he owned for target shooting contests. I never knew he even had it until strict gun control laws passed in New York, circa 1969. He ended up selling his weapon.
A large number of gun owners stockpile arsenals to take up arms against the United States and twist the 2nd Amendment to justify it. Today's gun owners need to grow up and fast.

@ReneeVoiceBrand @QasimRashid Remarkably different from other developed country democracies

https://brianklaas.substack.com/p/its-the-guns

It's the Guns.

America is the only rich democracy that features the routine mass slaughter of its citizens with guns. Why does this happen? The data show a really clear picture: It's the guns. Yes, it's that simple.

The Garden of Forking Paths

@ReneeVoiceBrand @QasimRashid

this was a 72 year old man.... So it has nothing to do with "kids these days..."

It is the guns. Period.

@QasimRashid you have plenty of words.
You do well with your words.
Keep doing your words. People are listening, just not the people in power.
Keep using those words. That could change.
#DefendDemocracy
@QasimRashid Meanwhile in Illinois, sheriffs are refusing to enforce gun laws. The level of selfishness is stunning.
@JaneA yep. Dealing with that in my county. Dupage. Absurd.
@QasimRashid Controlling old white guys...so tiresome.
@JaneA @QasimRashid I’m an IL resident in a red county and can confirm. Our own police made an announcement on FB that they wouldn’t uphold and that it is unconstitutional. It’s a restriction on certain rifles and large magazines; we can still buy guns.
@QasimRashid more guns than people means lots of death
@QasimRashid it's what Republicans want. The gun lobby has convinced everyone that guns make you safer but the truth is the opposite. If you own a gun you are more likely to be shot and shot with your own gun.
@QasimRashid it's broken my heart. I'm so sorry to the community and the families affected. I'm a survivor of a school shooting and every time I hear this my heart breaks.
@QasimRashid We need young people to vote, and that's really the only answer to all our problems. Effective GOTV efforts focused on the 17-29 age group would be the best use of donations.
@QasimRashid
The causes of #MassShootings are many, but I think the core problem is an unfair economy that #crushes us while the rich get richer. Life is very hard and some people go crazy. We should all have good jobs paying #livingwages. Instead there are 2 new #billionaires a day. #TaxTheRich #FairEconomy
@QasimRashid
Horses out of the barn already. Sleep on the bed we make.
@QasimRashid I can suggest some words: "Brought to you by #Republicans and the #NRA." #MontereyPark
@BruceMirken @QasimRashid People usually look for a motive to determine why this happened. They’re looking in the wrong place. They did it because they could. We need to reduce the number of guns these people can get their hands on. #montereypark #MassShooting #Guns #NRAKillsForPay
@QasimRashid I can't belive this shit is this possible
@QasimRashid Out of curiosity, where do you keep track of gun deaths in the US (as well as how they break down into per capita and location such as rural vs suburban vs urban)?
@QasimRashid most 3rd world countries are safer
@QasimRashid Sacrifice and Morality: Learn all of the songs of all that you can so that when they are lost you can sing of them and keep them in the moment through memory. There is no greatness in the sacrifice or taking of life, no glory or redemption, only loss. This loss is the purpose and key to mortality, do not fear it. *Violence and violent expression are deeply engrained in the human experience. Expressing love in your life is the only way to change it. Show love. OWOP
@QasimRashid This is what Americans want, why they keep voting R, they believe the propaganda from the right and are too uneducated or lazy to think for themselves!!! YES, IT’S THE GUNS, but also plenty of stupidity and laziness!!!

@QasimRashid as someone sat outside the US, I'd suggest you need to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, I see lots of outrage on gun violence, black lives with protests then nothing..

Who's voting the people in who keep the laws that allow this in place?

Outrage will not stop this, rally's, marches, hopes and dreams won't either only action will

@QasimRashid

This is sickening, trying to pass sensible gun laws is always thwarted by gun lobby's, particularly the NRA and the gun fanatics in our government.

@QasimRashid

I think it's way past time to start holding gun manufacturers, sellers, lobbyists, etc. legally and financially responsible for these shootings.

@QasimRashid

It's horrifyingly commonplace. An everyday occurrence in modern America.

I learned all I needed to know about firearms as a ground pounder in Viet Nam fifty years ago. I'm in the minority of Americans who neither possess or carry a firearm.

People are mostly fearful, superstitious brutes, and a waste of an oversize brainpan.

The best thing about modern convenience, and mass communication over web, is that I seldom must see anyone except my wife and dog.

@QasimRashid great going supreme court

@QasimRashid The victims of the WTC attacks in 2011 cost 2977 people their lives. You'll reach that number in MSA deaths before end of January.

The former caused the U.S. to launch a mass attack at countries that eventually turned out to have nothing to do with it, devastating the lives of millions.

The latter is "governed by constitution, 2nd amendment!"

If people pretend that's not legit madness, they're just part of the madness themselves...

@QasimRashid Why is it that when an asian, black, hispanic, or arab do it, they are called "terrorist" but when a white christian does it it's not?
@QasimRashid that statistic at the end is just batshit crazy.

@QasimRashid

What benchmark is going to be hit first, 2 degrees average global warming or 2 mass shootings per day in the USA?

I don't expect any meaningful action to be taken to avoid these two fates.
