@mattratt during a brief foray into the neighborhood FB group, I witnessed someone flipping out over a passerby picking flowers from their garden…which is pretty standard neighborhood FB group stuff. Had them on video and everything. And of course everyone was arguing whether this was a brutal transgression of social boundaries or if the OP was just massively overreacting.
But the best part was a sub-argument happening deep in the comments…
@mattratt the OP had a sentence that was like “if you want flowers, how about getting them from the islands?!”
This was autumn 2020 and the liberal whites were super eager to show off how anti racist they were so immediately a couple of them replied “Whoa, the ‘islands’?! It’s not ok to steal from you but it’s fine to steal from people who are from islands? That’s racist, check your privilege.”
Eventually it was pointed out that OP meant the traffic islands with little gardens.
@mattratt but instead of backing off, the liberals doubled-down (of course)
“Listen I get that they probably meant traffic islands BUT STILL, plz consider the racially-charged political climate! It costs nothing to think about whether something you post might be misconstrued as racism! I hope OP will edit her post, so I can feel good about stopping this HARM.” and so on.
