Timo GrünMastodon question: Why do I get a “Sign in” request when trying to follow some accounts, even though I’m already signed in? (I’m using the standard iOS Mastodon app.) Does it have something to do with the way some instances are federated?

My understanding is that when you follow a user from an instance yet not known to your instance the two instances will take some time to come to a basic sync status. Until this basic sync is not fully done you are unknown to the foreign instance and since it issues an sign in request. When the status is synced the foreign instance knows your instance and it's users and grants access to browse it's content.
Anyone please correct me?
