“Dunn was born in an orange grove barn in central #Florida… He & his family harvested crops at a time when the Sunshine State had some of the nation’s strictest Jim Crow segregation laws. Dunn lived that history up close; he remembers being forced to use the ‘colored’ beach & drinking fountain growing up.”

Now the professor emeritus is defying #DeSantis —whose #StopWokeAct censors #BlackHistory in schools— by taking high school students on statewide #TeachTheTruth tours. https://wapo.st/3XOY5j0

A Black professor defies DeSantis law restricting lessons on race

Retired professor Marvin Dunn is challenging the 'anti-woke' education policies of Gov. Ron DeSantis by showing high school students sites of racist events in Florida's history.

This man is a true American hero. More of us need to be just like him.
@GJGreenlea
A man of integrity and principle. With people like him there will always be some hope that freedom of thought and belief may survive even in these uncertain times.
@GJGreenlea DeSantis is a monster, and the pols and media shills riding his coattails are the worst breed of craven trash >spit<. This man's experience should be witnessed throughout government as well as in education.
@GJGreenlea It's a sad situation. It is impossible to say anything about it. He can't people share his feelings. 😶
@GJGreenlea
A brave man whose ideas should be not be ignored. Americans should take heed of his words and not be afraid to act.
@GJGreenlea Call DeSantis what he is: a Nazi.

@GJGreenlea

I attended K-12 at some of the best public schools in Florida. I also graduated from one of the top universities.

Never heard of Rosewood.

Never heard about Tulsa or Black Wall st.

After my 4 years in the fairly diverse Marine Corps infantry, I couldn't stand the casual, daily racism of Florida. I left and will never move back.

I have family and friends who are lawyers, professors, politicians and so on- essentially the power brokers. The level of racism is much deeper than you realize. It is a constant underlayment. There are many areas where citizens pretty much self-segregate. White areas and black areas.

My heart breaks for the beautiful land where no one cares about the color difference between the pelican species. We save that hatred for our own species and only our own. It's truly absurd.

@GJGreenlea
This is an American that makes me proud of our country!!
And I am scared to death for him.
@palin I worry for this hero’s safety, too. If we stand together, we outnumber racist fascists like DeSantis. Love will win.
