School downplayed warnings about 6-year-old before teacher’s shooting, staffers say

The previously unreported incidents raise new questions about how Richneck Elementary School handled the 6-year-old who police say shot a teacher.

@jednc since the state of VA won't pay teachers a reasonable salary, maybe they should receive hazard pay? 😞
@jednc I read the article. The kid sounds like a monster. In an earlier age we called him bad seed. He needs to be under supervised care... forever. The administrator of the school was removed, and that seems to be the least and first thing they needed to do. Oh, about the family of the boy, charge them to the full extent of the law, which will be almost nil. That is gun law in the USA. 🤬
@rajiihammr our gun laws are a joke. We need politicians who will stand up to the gun lobbyists and pass some common sense reforms. And, we need school admin and school systems that are not more interested in avoiding bad press than in protecting other students and teachers.
@jednc
<sarcasm> if only the teacher had been armed. She could have shot the 6-year old. Damn liberals.</sarcasm>
@rajiihammr
@theRealKanuk @rajiihammr isn't that the most ridiculous idea ever floated?

@jednc
From the article:

“I don’t think the teachers there are getting support, they’re not getting compassion, they’re not getting answers, they’re not getting listened to,” she said, adding of the shooting, “this was, I believe, God’s way of saying somebody needs to listen to them.”

God sure works in mysterious ways. 😢

@theRealKanuk yeah, I'm not sure I agree with her assessment. I certainly would hope that this would not be God's way of doing anything. Can good come from something awful? Of course. Is that the plan going in? I hope not..
@jednc Unfortunately this does not surprise me. I have a family member in the VA school system and too many times the system is more worried about numbers and protecting the school system from the legal stuff that they don't always put the necessary protections in place for the staff.
@fidler I think you are exactly right.
