The Florida Department of Education says it banned AP African American History because it teaches students about activism, intersectionality and encourages “ending the war on Black trans, queer, gender non-conforming, and intersex people.”

😱Right?🤦‍♀️

The move comes in the same week the far-right Republican—who a judge just ruled violated free speech laws by firing a prosecutor for being “woke”—requested info on trans students from universities state-wide.

Florida Department of Education Gives Bizarre Reasoning for Banning AP African American History

The Florida Department of Education was concerned with the class teaching students about activism and reparations without providing a “critical perspective or balancing opinion.”

What's the opposite of "woke?"
Brain-dead?

I had no idea the 1st Amendment had been repealed...
@joeinwynnewood They're trying. DeSantis is scary.

The secret of freedom lies in educating people ,whereas the secret of tyranny is in keeping them ignorant ~Maximilien Robespierre

@PBruce @UROCKlive1 I think Robespierre meant this as advice for the good of the general public - Education!. In today's politics, authoritarians understand it well and pervert its aspiration. It's what drives their ubiquitous campaigns of lying, disinformation, bigoted finger-pointing, and weaponization of democratic institutions to prevent people from learning, knowledge, and true freedom.

@Meryem_Fuat @UROCKlive1

Once you destroy truth, untether people from reality, anything is possible, even a coup.

@PBruce @UROCKlive1 A coup that, had it been successful, would have made life much worse for the people who thought they were doing something to improve their lives when they are actually serving agents of chaos.
@Meryem_Fuat @PBruce @UROCKlive1
Education is never just about "facts". Education always carries with it values and ethics and cultural mores, no matter how they try to pare it down to just the facts, or just the 3 R's, or whatever.
It's scary when people's kids (figurative or literal) realize how hypocritical the elders they trusted have been, and begin to think about not trusting those elders with absolute power any more.
Easier to blame "woke" education and "indoctrination" and some ungodly thing called "CRT" than to face up to the younger generations' realization that not only is whatever culture you are leaving them not the Perfect Society you promised, but also your own failure to deliver on that promise. Or even try very hard.
@UROCKlive1 @gzuckier @PBruce People who are scared of their young growing and changing to become their own person (and move the world forward) are the people being manipulated to believe that new ways of thinking are scary. Education continues throughout life for people who seek knowledge. We have unparalleled access to knowledge and yet people sit in front of the same old source(s) every day, allowing showmen and liars to mold their thinking.

This SO describes #Republican #EducationPolicy at least ever since #RonaldReagan became #CA's governor.

Aww yes

The biggest threat to America today is not communism, it's moving America toward a fascist theocracy . ~Frank Zappa 1986

When a certain religious moral code/laws from a certain religion rule, books are banned, history changed, .

The Christian Church of America grows stronger as it is far easier to fill an empty vessel.

Why were slaves not allowed to read?

Fearing that black literacy would prove a threat to the slave system -- which relied on slaves' dependence on masters -- whites in many colonies instituted laws forbidding slaves to learn to read or write and making it a crime for others to teach them.

Law of Linus -Charlie Brown

No one is going to give you the education you need to overthrow them.

@PBruce @UROCKlive1
And now we've moved on to where, fearing that literacy would prove a threat to the capitalist feudal system -- which relies on peasants' dependence on plutocrats -- right-wingers in many states instituted laws forbidding anybody to learn to read or write about past or present oppression in the US, and making it a crime for others to teach them.
@PBruce @UROCKlive1 Republicans playbook exactly.

@smit9186 @UROCKlive1

I feel wrong even saying this but sadly believe it to be true. I suspect his motive is to remove all black,a stain, from pure White Supreme history , to kill the roots of the tree, cultural genocide. But, those roots run too deep, have been tested too often & will prevail

Education, a well read man, was the sign of a Gentleman, Royalty, The Gentry, Your Lordship, while

Ignorance was the sign of the peasant, the slave, the indentured servant, the cannon fodder

@PBruce @UROCKlive1
Our paradox in the modern age is in the number of people "choosing" to be ignorant.

@stargazersmith @UROCKlive1

Yup, partly as the need to be right trumps being right & an empty vessel, a frail Ego , is easily filled to the exclusion of all else.

@stargazersmith @UROCKlive1 @PBruce Its a mix of what people are taught to value and how distracted they can be by other things.
@PBruce @UROCKlive1 too many stupid people in the US despite school being mandatory.
@UROCKlive1 I guess this is DeSatan moving from Reagan's "welfare queen" racism to "Blacks are LGBTQ" racism-with-homophobia for a double-hate swirl?
@UROCKlive1 when school is just capitalist indoctrination.
