I know quite a few artists who have devoted their lives to their art & none had privilege of wealth & even though now having made a name for themselves, they still live hand to mouth. Success in art relies more on a drive strong enough to overcome discomfort than it does having money.
@sbutz I think the post is less about needing money to succeed in art but more along the lines of if you don’t have to worry about where the next rent check is coming from, humans naturally deviate towards being creative and art.
@marktull I see that. Yes, humans are naturally creative but by and large the ones who devote their lives to art, music, literature, performing arts etc are rarely the children of means. So many of us give up on our creative impulses before high school. I think it’d be better to say I wish we all were instilled with the single mindedness to pursue our creativeness despite all the societal and competing pressures that tend to squelch them.
