having at least two typo enthusiasts among my fedi bubble made me think of reviving my #font making projects.

i only ever hand-set them in Inkscape because FontForge seemed arcane and scary, but i watched a few video tutorials and it seems actually managable.

anyway, this is hextura vulgae, a geometric blackletter-ish on a triangular grid. hextura = Textura + hexagon. vulgae because the original hextura was more cyber and much less readable, and this one is for the crude masses 😛.

here is the original hextura design, btw. as you can see: cyber. also this one has capital letters with some more imbellished forms (i think Fraktur was my main influence here?). i'm not a huge fan of blackletter capitals tho, tbh…

one of my ideas for a modern hextura was actually to use color fonts to make capitals just different-colored minuscles. probably not the most practical idea, maybe changing the stroke weights would be better? or maybe just elongating the letters 🤔?
