There's a lot of ingredients right now dystopias of various kinds.

In terms of tropes, for me, I am a little worn out by 'top-down' dystopias (i.e. where it is driven by small elites in the form of governments or theocracy). I think it is fresher (and more accurate to the real-world) to show dystopias where a section of the public enables and sustain dystopias.
