@aprettyaday they are both a bit awkward, in different ways, and I find myself reluctant to compare their acceptability

@roger_p_levy Thanks!! Yeah I think this describes well what is happening. Each sentence illustrates a different problem. I was hoping that there was only one but I now clearly see there are two. The pair below is I guess easier to compare for you too?
